Jenny's Journey

Jenny's Journey

24 April 2020

I have always liked working with people and wanting to try and bring out the best in them. I have many friends and we all bring each other up and help each other when were down or need anything.

However, around 8 years ago I started a new relationship which became very abusive. I managed to leave him a few years back and start a new life for me and my two children. After leaving him I had to rebuild my life, I had no confidence, self esteem or belief in myself. I was provided with a Support Worker who helped me do this, she helped me realise that I wasn't to blame, she helped me build my confidence and much, much more. Throughout this process I realised that I was choosing partners to help and change rather than finding happiness with someone. It was then that I realised that I wanted to do this line of work, I wanted to go out and help people like she helped me.

Since working with You First my confidence has grown massively, I feel I am a completely different person to what I was when I first started. I believe that this is not only for the people that work within You First but the customers I work with. I feel that I have had brilliant guidance from Sam and Nathalie which has been so nice as this was a role I had never done before, Nathalie is a pleasure to work for and so easy to talk to.

The training you have in place is brilliant and during this COVID-19 pandemic I have found it quite comforting receiving daily emails to keep us all in the loop.

My fondest moment, so far, was when Z and I went to Chard Reservoir. Z was over the moon going there and told me she hadn't been there since she was a young girl. She tried phoning her parents to tell them where she was, she was so happy and it was so lovely to see.
