My story with You First has been a short one so far but one I see in my future for a very long time.
After leaving my job back in February this year after spending two and a half years in a retail store, I realised how judgmental this world can be of others and how we spend a lot of time looking for a profit. I didn’t want to spend my time in a place that didn’t care about their customers or staff and only profits so I realised it was time for a change.
I came across the role of being a Support Worker and I read a lot into it, and this is where I came across You First. Seeing they were a Mindful Employer and a non-profit organisation had me interested. With no experience I didn’t think I would get very far but the same day I applied I had a call back I was informed experience wasn’t necessarily needed and it was more about you values. This made me even more intrigued.
Two months down the line I know I took the right choice.
Whist I am the Support Worker, the people I support also give me so much. It is true thay some days can be challenging but I have had so many brilliant experiences with the people I see on a regular basis. At least once a day someone will make me laugh, another will make me proud of their achievements they have made big or small or just simply make me happy which makes me know this is all worthwhile.
I have not had one day waking up thinking I don’t want to go to work.
My family have already seen what a difference this kind of career has on me as I come home happy all the time. This has all happened in just two months of my journey with You First so continuing this is something I look forwards to everyday!
